The "Piano Man" singer and his fourth wife welcomed their daughter this morning at 2:40 a.m. in New York. According to People, she weighed in at 7 pounds, 6.5 ounces, and all are doing well. This is Joel's second child (daughter Alexa Ray is 29) and the first for Roderick.

As for the name they chose, it's Della Rose, which is one of those great names that is unique but not too unique. It's easy to spell and pronounce but unusual enough that she likely won't be sitting in a classroom one day with a room full of girls with the same name. It's similar to the popular name Ella, but takes a nice, different twist on it.

The meaning of the name is "bright and noble", which seems fitting for a child of the superstar couple. There aren't many well-known Dellas who come to mind, though the main character in the classic short story "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry is named Della.
Rose is just a beautiful name no matter what it's paired with and adds a classic twist. Together, the combination sounds feminine and pretty but simultaneously strong. Lovely.
