When it comes to naming our babies, we Brits know what we like, and our devotion to certain baby names is reflected in the annual charts.

The Office for National Statistics have released the latest lists of most popular baby names in England and Wales, and there's little change in the top three for boys or girls. Oliver (top spot since 2013) is the most popular baby boy name, with Jack and Harry coming second and third. Topping the baby girl list is another repeat performer — Amelia has been No. 1 for five years running. Olivia and Emily make up the top three.
However, some interesting additions to the top 100 have a far less traditional flavour. In the girls' chart, Penelope, Mila, Clara, Madison, Arabella and Aria appear for the first time, while Jaxon, Roman, Reggie and Carter are new entries for boys.
Clearly parents are influenced by pop culture when it comes to picking their baby names. The surge in popularity of Aria may be attributed to the Pretty Little Liars character and the Game of Thrones heroine. Other new entries are favourites of celebrity parents, such as Penelope, which was chosen for their daughters by Tina Fey, Anna Chlumsky, Taylor Hanson and Kourtney Kardashian. The same could be said for Roman, the baby boy name choice for Natalia Vodianova, Cate Blanchett, Molly Ringwald and Debra Messing.
