More: Old-fashioned baby names that totally work for a very modern baby
Anna is a classic, simple baby girl name that is unlikely to ever go out of fashion. The Anglo-Saxon version of the Hebrew Hannah, it has a lovely meaning ("grace") and ranked at No. 44 in the U.S. baby name chart in 2015. It's even more popular in other countries: No. 1 in Austria, No. 2 in Hungary, No. 8 in the Netherlands and No. 5 in Norway.
Some of the most famous modern bearers of the name are actresses Anna Kendrick, Anna Faris and Anna Paquin, and English editor-in-chief of American Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour. In literature, Anna Karenina is the eponymous character of Leo Tolstoy's novel. And Frozen fans will be familiar with the younger Disney princess, voiced by Kristen Bell in the animated film. Anna is also a favorite with musicians, with The Beatles' "Anna (Go to Him)," Taken by Trees' "Anna," Counting Crows' "Anna Begins," Incubus' "Anna Molly" and Walk the Moon's "Anna Sun" featuring the name in the song titles.
